Arriva un momento nella vita della maggior parte delle donne nel quale il desiderio di maternità diventa più forte.
Sarà perché la maggior parte di noi è consapevole che non si possono avere figli oltre una certa età, almeno in modo naturale. Magari abbiamo trovato la persona giusta con la quale condividere la vita. O semplicemente ci sentiamo pronte a dedicarci alle cose da mamma. Qualunque possa essere la motivazione, ad un certo punto ci sembra di non riuscire più a resistere alla voglia di diventare mamma.
Ma siamo davvero consapevoli di quanto la nostra vita potrà essere sconvolta da questa decisione?

Diventare mamma comporta grandi cambiamenti emotivi, psicologici e fisici.
Per questo il desiderio di maternità non dovrebbe dipendere solo dalla considerazione del periodo fertile donna, ma soprattutto da una consapevolezza emotiva. È vero anche che molte donne che si ritrovano ad essere madre a seguito di una gravidanza non programmata sono bravissime. Quello che fa la differenza è affrontare tutti i cambiamenti della nostra vita in modo positivo.

La gravidanza prima e la cura del bambino poi comporteranno metamorfosi emotive e fisiche. Cambierà la percezione che abbiamo di noi stesse. I nostri fianchi si allargheranno, gli addominali saranno più rilassati. II seno turgido e generoso in gravidanza, potrebbe diventare vuoto e rilassato, soprattutto se avremo la fortuna di allattare.
Varieranno i nostri gusti ed i nostri interessi. Anche il rapporto di coppia cambierà, sia prima che soprattutto dopo l’arrivo del bebè.

La gravidanza è un periodo molto importante della nostra vita ma non è fatta solo di momenti spensierati.
I sintomi della gestazione possono essere molto fastidiosi. Gli ormoni possono condizionare fortemente il nostro umore. I cambiamenti fisici del nostro corpo non saranno sempre facili da accettare. Non sarà solo il nostro ventre a crescere. Potremmo sentire anche il seno turgido e dolorante e alcuni piccoli problemi di circolazione potrebbero rendere gli arti gonfi e pesanti. Potremmo sentirci spossate, appesantite, svogliate.

Potremmo avere voglie strane. Ci potrebbe capitare di svegliarci diverse volte durante la notte per fare pipì e poi desiderare mangiare proprio quello che di solito ci viene sconsigliato: cibi spazzatura, affettati o formaggi crudi.
Potremmo stancarci di sentire tutti i consigli e i commenti della gente. Ci sarà chi vorrà dispensarci qualche perla di saggezza, chi non potrà fare a meno di commentare il nostro pancione, chi persino ci toccherà la pancia senza chiederci il permesso.
Tuttavia, se sapremo vivere questi cambiamenti in modo costruttivo, concentrandoci sulla loro temporaneità, non perderemo la voglia di scoprire il bello di essere mamma.

Tutti pensano che diventare mamma sia un’esperienza meravigliosa.
Sicuramente lo è, non c’è nulla di più bello al mondo. Non c’è amore più grande di quello per un figlio che sia un figlio di pancia o di cuore. Che sia stato concepito in modo naturale o con un piccolo aiuto dalla scienza, cercato, capitato, che sia stato adottato: un figlio è un miracolo, un dono, un privilegio.
Eppure non c’è nulla di più difficile dell’essere mamma. Non è solo lo stress della gravidanza o il dolore del parto, la maternità è un’esperienza di crescita che non smette mai di sorprenderci, ma anche metterci sempre alla prova. Diventare mamma vuol dire insegnare ad un bambino a diventare grande. Dovremo cercare di trasmettere a nostro figlio i nostri valori, fargli capire la differenza tra il bene ed il male. Dovremo riuscire a capire quando piange perché sta male e quando invece fa solo capricci. Dovremo accudirlo, coccolarlo, consolarlo, divertirlo. Dovremo amarlo in modo incondizionato cercando di non soffocarlo, provando ad essere migliori di quello che siamo perché i bambini hanno bisogno del meglio!

Nonostante ciò, per dire voglio essere mamma non occorre avere già tutte le risposte o possibili soluzioni. Anzi, abbandoniamo gli stereotipi sulla mamma perfetta e concentriamoci su noi stesse.
Viviamo questa esperienza ognuno con la propria capacità di adattamento, cercando di non arrenderci davanti a nessuna difficoltà. Diventeremo forse grasse, goffe, un po’ esaurite, ma cercheremo di fare il meglio perché avremo ricevuto il regalo più grande.
