Avete deciso di battezzare il vostro bambino ma ancora non avete scelto il padrino e madrina?
Il Battesimo è uno dei sacramenti alla base della religione cattolica.
Trovare le persone giuste per accompagnare nostro figlio durante il rito e nella vita è molto importante.
In Italia molti genitori pensano al Battesimo più come tradizione culturale che per esigenza di fede. Più che il fondamento della vita cristiana questo rito viene vissuto talvolta come una festa mondana.

Qualunque siano i motivi che ci spingono, quello che conta è lo spirito con cui si affronta questo giorno importante. È vero che è una festa, lo è in ogni caso. Per questo il bimbo deve essere accompagnato da persone speciali!
Un tempo si usava scegliere i nonni per la loro importanza nella vita del bimbo, ma oggi molte parrocchie lo sconsigliano.

Perché padrino e madrina non devono essere familiari

Per quanto le motivazioni possano essere varie, se decidiamo di battezzare il bimbo dobbiamo rispettare alcune regole del diritto canonico.
Secondo i dettami della Chiesa padrino o la madrina hanno il compito di assistere e sostenere, l’educazione del bambino alla vita cristiana.
Alcune comunità pastorali consigliano di non scegliere padrino o la madrina tra i familiari perché la relazione parentale potrebbe incidere negativamente sugli impegni assunti. Padrino e madrina potrebbe dimenticare il loro ruolo di guide spirituali o considerarlo secondario rispetto al ruolo familiare.

Come scegliere padrino e madrina

Come scegliere quindi le persone adatte ad assumere un compito tanto importante?

Secondo il diritto canonico padrino e madrina devono avere alcuni requisiti:

  • essere scelti dal battezzando o dai suoi genitori;
  • avere 16 anni compiuti;
  • essere cattolici;
  • aver ricevuto i sacramenti della Confermazione e dell’Eucarestia;
  • non essere colpevoli di nessuna pena canonica;
  • non essere madre o padre del battezzando;
  • non essere conviventi, sposati solo civilmente, divorziato o risposati;

Ma a parte queste prerogative religiose, padrino e madrina devono essere persone care, di cui ci si fida. Saranno due testimoni di un messaggio fondamentale per la crescita di nostro figlio. Dovranno quindi anche rappresentare un esempio positivo e non essere scelti per interessi economici o solo per assecondare tradizioni o desideri familiari. Alcune volte infatti succede che la suocera, ad esempio, voglia dare consigli anche su questo.

Se siamo molto indecisi, possiamo optare anche per una sola persona. In questo caso può essere sia uomo che donna a prescindere dal sesso del battezzando.
Al di là dei requisiti cattolici, delle tradizioni e suggerimenti familiari, dobbiamo scegliere persone che sappiamo potranno rispettare gli importantissimi impegni presi.
