Epidurale: 5 cose che ancora non sapete

Su internet ogni donna in gravidanza può trovare molti siti in cui spiegano tutto sull’epidurale, cioè l’anestesia che viene praticata per non sentire i dolori del parto.
Ecco allora 5 cose che non tutti vi dicono, basate sulla mia esperienza di parto in un ospedale di Milano:

1. È necessaria una visita con lo specialista
Per poter usufruire dell’epidurale bisogna prima fare degli esami e sottoporsi ad una visita con l’anestesista presso l’ospedale in cui si è deciso di partorire. In caso di esito positivo, l’idoneità ha validità di circa due mesi. Conviene quindi prendere appuntamento intorno alla 36esima settimana di gestazione.

2. La visita deve essere fatta nell’ospedale in cui si è deciso di partorire
Spesso, nonostante si sia ritenute idonee in un ospedale, nel caso in cui si dovesse partorire in un altro la visita non è ritenuta valida per poter usufruire dell’anestesia.

3. In quasi tutti gli ospedali è un servizio gratuito 24/7
Cioè 24 ore su 24, 7 giorni su 7 c’è la possibilità di richiedere l’epidurale. In alcune strutture danno in aggiunta la possibilità di pagare privatamente l’anestesista per avere una maggior certezza della sua presenza, che non è comunque mai veramente garantita poiché, se in ospedale si dovesse verificare un’emergenza, sarà chiamato per cose più importanti (diciamo che, in linea di massima, tutto viene considerato più pericoloso ed urgente di un parto).

4. In molti ospedali tendono in realtà a non fare l’epidurale
Anche se ne è sempre garantita la possibilità, spesso la teoria non diventa pratica. Vuoi perché si ritiene che il parto sia una cosa naturale e che la donna sia stata “progettata” per partorire senza alcun aiuto, vuoi perché l’anestesista risulta sempre impegnato in altre operazioni più importanti, vuoi perché l’epidurale può causare complicanze.

5. La scelta di fare l’epidurale non è vostra
Bensì dell’ostetrica che vi segue durante il parto. Lei, guidata dalla sua esperienza, dovrebbe capire se nel vostro caso è necessaria o meno.

Io ad esempio ero convintissima che non avrei mai partorito senza epidurale, e che piuttosto mi sarei alzata e sarei tornata a casa per protesta. Ho dovuto poi ovviamente fare i conti con la realtà. Meglio quindi prepararsi psicologicamente prima, pensando che si dovrà e potrà gestire la sofferenza. Dopotutto, quante altre donne prima di noi hanno “partorito con dolore”!
Se poi ci andrà “di fortuna”, l’anestesista verrà a farci la magica puntura!
