Il calcolo del ciclo mestruale è molto importante. Sebbene ogni donna, a partire dalla pubertà, impari ad avere a che fare con le mestruazioni, non tutte conoscono davvero come funziona il ciclo. Tutte sappiamo che il ciclo dura (o meglio dovrebbe durare) 28 giorni, ma avere ogni mese un ciclo regolare è un evento abbastanza raro. A volte basta lo stress o un dimagrimento eccessivo, ad esempio, a provocare un ritardo del ciclo. Altre volte sono presenti vere e proprie patologie che provocano ciclo in anticipo, in ritardo o amenorrea. Senza contare il fatto che ogni donna ha il proprio ritmo e che si può benissimo avere un ciclo regolare, ma di 25 giorni, oppure di 35. Insomma, le variabili in gioco sono davvero tante, per questo dobbiamo imparare a fare un preciso calcolo del ciclo mestruale.

Ciclo mestruale

Il ciclo mestruale è il periodo compreso tra il primo giorno di una mestruazione e il primo giorno delle mestruazioni successive. Esso in media dura 28 giorni e consta di diverse fasi, la cui durata può variare da donna a donna, che sono:

  • fase mestruale: può durare dai 3 ai 7 giorni, durante i quali compaiono le mestruazioni, ovvero le perdite ematiche dovute all’endometrio che si sfalda;
  • fase follicolare (dal 6° al 13° giorno): durante questo periodo l’endometrio comincia a riformarsi e nell’ovaio arriva a maturazione un follicolo;
  • ovulazione: essa avviene in genere intorno al 14°/15° giorno, quando il follicolo maturato nell’ovaio si rompe, rilasciando nelle tube l’ovulo in esso contenuto;
  • fase luteale: va dal 15°/16° giorno all’arrivo delle mestruazioni, dura circa 14 giorni. Durante questa fase il follicolo, che con l’ovulazione si libera della cellula uovo, diventa corpo luteo, che produce progesterone ed estrogeni.

Come abbiamo visto, in un ciclo regolare l’ovulazione avviene intorno al 14°giorno. Non sempre, però, si ha un ciclo regolare e soprattutto non sempre l’ovulazione avviene. La fase follicolare può durare qualche giorno in più o in meno, con ripercussioni sull’inizio dell’ovulazione. Per capire quando avviene l’ovulazione con certezza possiamo fare due cose: un test di ovulazione, oppure individuare i principali sintomi di ovulazione. Essi sono:

  • dolore basso ventre, in caso di ovulazione dolorosa si avverte una tensione all’addome, in corrispondenza delle ovaie;
  • perdite trasparenti, ovvero muco cervicale trasparente e filamentoso, simile al bianco d’uovo;
  • aumento della temperatura basale, da misurare al mattino appena sveglie;
  • aumento del desiderio, dovuto all’aumento degli estrogeni;
  • seno gonfio, particolarmente florido, sempre per merito degli ormoni.

Calcolo giorni fertili

L’ovulazione è il giorno più fertile del ciclo mestruale, perché è quello in cui il follicolo maturo rilascia l’ovulo nelle tube. Qui l’ovulo è pronto per essere fecondato dagli spermatozoi. I giorni fertili, però, sono più di uno. Questo perché gli spermatozoi vivono circa 72-96 ore all’interno delle vie genitali femminili. Ciò vuol dire che si può restare incinte per circa cinque giorni al mese. Tutto questo è valido in caso di ciclo regolare di 28 giorni. In caso di ciclo irregolare, più lungo o più corto, saranno fertili i 14 giorni prima delle mestruazioni successive. Ad esempio, in un ciclo di 24 giorni l’ovulazione avverrà intorno al decimo giorno, mentre in uno di 32 giorni, l’ovulazione sarà al 18° giorno.

Visto che il ciclo mestruale raramente è regolare, per calcolare le varie fasi è bene tenere un calendario mestruale. Basterà segnare su un calendario, l’agenda o il vostro smartphone il primo giorno di mestruazioni ogni mese. In questo modo verificherete che non ci siano irregolarità preoccupati. Potrete anche calcolare quanto dura in media il vostro ciclo e, segnando anche i sintomi, individuare il giorno dell’ovulazione.
